This fall we will again be hosting our popular Lunch and Learn events, to bring to you the most relevant and pertinent health topics and services available. Recently, we have been receiving more and more inquires related to hormone balancing as so many of our patients have reported having new symptoms and more people are becoming aware of how hormone imbalances can create many different symptoms in how we feel, our moods, energy levels, how we sleep, and the appearance of our skin, hair and nails.
Dr. Michelle Parsons, MD, has been offering hormone testing and bioidentical hormone replacement therapy for 15 years here in Delaware. Dr. Parsons has extensive experience evaluating, diagnosing and treating her patients including men, women, and adolescents. The concept behind bioidentical hormone therapy is that you would receive hormones that your body would normally produce but no longer is in adequate amounts, to address your specific symptoms, instead of being treated with synthetic hormones in dosages much higher than required. Included in an evaluation would be testing for estrogen levels, total and free testosterone levels, progesterone, a full thyroid and adrenal gland panel, and vitamin screens to include B12, folate, vitamin D, and iron levels. If indicated, Dr. Parsons will also check for genetic markers, such gluten sensitivities and MTHFR.
To inform you more of what we can offer, we will be hosting a Lunch and Learn on Tuesday November 12th at noon, at our office. Learn how our hormones fluctuate and change, usually starting around age 40, and continuing to diminish into our fifties. One of the first symptoms women will notice in their 40's is difficulty sleeping, often waking up at 3am. Men and women will begin to notice loss of muscle mass, added weight, thinning of skin, increased dryness and loss of the thickness of hair. With decreasing sex hormones, which are naturally anti-inflammatory, many will also begin to experience, arthritis and decreased flexibility.
Also participating in our Hormone Lunch and Learn will be pharmaceutical technician Brenda Poland from Saveway Compounding Pharmacy, Newark, to also provide her expertise on the latest pharmaceutical advances in bioidentical hormone therapies.
